Title A name given to the resource Carry On: A Magazine on the Reconstruction of Disabled Soldiers and Sailors Description An account of the resource The war may have ended in 1918, but the work of mending soldiers’ bodies and minds continued. Shell-shocked soldiers returning from the front now needed help with adapting to life back in the United States. Shell shock thus became a civilian problem. In this context, the Phipps Clinic shifted from training examiners to training social workers to help disabled veterans. In 1918, Carry On became the official publication of the Surgeon General Office’s new Reconstruction Division. It contained articles on a wide range of topics, including the issue of nervous disorders. The publication began circulating through Adolf Meyer’s professional correspondences as early as September of 1918, just before the war ended.
