    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[While female nurses dominated the Mercy Ship expedition, it carried a small number of surgeons too.  Seven of them hailed from Johns Hopkins Hospital and School of Medicine.  They are pictured here in a photo from the voyage.  M.H. Todd was an alumnus and Instructor of Orthopedic Surgery in the School of Medicine.  The other six men were alumni and young members of the surgical staff at the Johns Hopkins Hospital: John C. Colston, R. Fayerweather, L.C. Spencer, H.C. Slack, Henry M. Shaw, and V.N. Leonard.   ]]></dcterms:description>

This is the same style of arm bands worn by Red Cross nurses like Bartlett when serving with the Red Cross in World War I. ]]></dcterms:description>
