A Butterfly

"Basket of Early Flowers"

(included in Cliff Valentines, 1808)

Have not thy Cares and fostering Hand

Rear’d the first Visitants of Spring

And taught their Blossoms to expand

While Winter lagg’d on sullen Wing

And thus with thee, Affections Joy[s]

No angry Passions shall deform

Domestic Blessings round thee [r]ise

And laugh at each external Storm.
