Woman with Cupid in Basket

Woman with Cupid in Basket

(included in Cliff Valentines, 1808)

On roses cradled Cupid smil’d,

And Beauty lull’d the playful child,

While from her breast the tender dove,

A dowry pillow form’d for Love,-

Calm his repose serenely blest;

But sweeter far shall Cupid rest

If cradled in your gentle breast.
