Figures of Tools

Will you adapt this stately [wooing];

With [bows] the courtly Dame [pursuing],

While she with stiff and haughty air,

Scarce listens to her Lovers prayer

[h]old sir again peruse each feature,

Nor tremble to support your Claim,

This seeming stately dressing Dame

Will prove a plain domestic Creature,

Her hoop a Pail appears, right soon

A mop her French Wig’s flowing charms

Her Ruffles [pate pans] her arms

A Toasting Fork and [t]asting spoon.

Thus with domestic Habits blest

The Lot methinks may well content ye,

That promises, who will jest

A well stored House, and wealth in plenty.
