The Choice of Hercules.

By Pleasures siren Accents wooed,

And warn’d by Virtue’s Voice;

Awhile the Hero pensive stood

Then fix’d his glorious Choice

And found, in Virtue’s bright Abode,

The Joys the honors of a God!

O never for the feeling Heart

Be Cup Circean pour’d!

But Virtue purer sweets impart

With Reason’s Blessings stor’d:

Then emulate the Choice divine,

And Bliss shall crown your Valentine.
