His Portable Surveyor's Level

Item

Title
His Portable Surveyor's Level
Description
Personal field level inscribed with the name of the Whiting-Turner Contracting Company where he built his career. In his early days at Whiting-Turner, Mr. Hackerman carried this pocket-sized level in the field to make quick checks on the alignment and accuracy of a trench or foundation. More than just a tool of the trade, we might think of this as a handy version of the more elaborate instruments surveyors and map makers used, such as Danfrie’s graphomèter, to inform the beautiful maps Willard would later collect.
