“Colored Teachers’ Class”: 1924-1926

Between 1924 and 1926, the Peabody Preparatory offered a pedagogy course for African-American music teachers, referred to as the "Colored Teachers' Class." It was held off-campus, as Peabody was still nearly thirty years away from being integrated. This is the first known instance of Peabody’s interaction with African-American musicians.
