Title

Photo of Surgeons on Board the Red Cross Mercy Ship

Description

While female nurses dominated the Mercy Ship expedition, it carried a small number of surgeons too. Seven of them hailed from Johns Hopkins Hospital and School of Medicine. They are pictured here in a photo from the voyage. M.H. Todd was an alumnus and Instructor of Orthopedic Surgery in the School of Medicine. The other six men were alumni and young members of the surgical staff at the Johns Hopkins Hospital: John C. Colston, R. Fayerweather, L.C. Spencer, H.C. Slack, Henry M. Shaw, and V.N. Leonard.
