Description
As the second Director of the Nursing Bureau of the League of Red Cross Societies in Geneva, Katherine Olmsted continued Alice Fitzgerald's work of organizing local nursing schools and public health nursing services according to American nursing standards in Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Norway, Italy, Estonia, and Latvia. This Belgian medal is a Patonce cross of red enamel with branches of silver oak leaves between the arms; red enamel oval, elongated vertically, in the center of the cross features a Belgian lion with a superimposed white enamel shield with a red cross; suspended from a silver metal crown attached to a white ribbon with a central red stripe.
